Violette Sepor
Ficus carica ‘Violette Sepor’About
Violette Sepor is a French variety closely related to Violette de Bordeaux and sharing many of its finest qualities. The figs are small to medium with dark violet skin and deep, sweet flesh with a concentrated berry flavour. "Sepor" refers to its origins in selection and research programmes. It tends to be slightly more vigorous than Violette de Bordeaux while retaining the same quality of fruit, making it a strong alternative for growers who want a similar flavour profile with slightly more productive growth.
Growing Notes
- Slightly more vigorous than Violette de Bordeaux; benefits from regular pruning.
- Excellent for container growing despite the increased vigour.
- Prolific — good yields of both breba and main crop in suitable conditions.
- Full sun essential for deep colour and flavour development.
- Cold hardiness similar to Violette de Bordeaux — good for a dark variety.
My Notes
Grown alongside Violette de Bordeaux for comparison. The fruit quality is remarkably similar — perhaps a touch less intense but barely distinguishable in a blind tasting. The extra vigour means I get a larger harvest from the same-sized container.
