CDD Rimada
Ficus carica ‘Col de Dame Rimada’About
CDD Rimada — Col de Dame Rimada — is a rare and highly sought-after member of the prestigious Col de Dame family of French fig varieties. “Rimada” refers to its striking variegated or striped skin, which sets it apart visually from its siblings. The figs are medium-to-large with a distinctive elongated neck and skin that shows subtle striping or mottling as they ripen. The flesh is a rich strawberry-red, intensely sweet and jammy, with the same honey-berry depth that makes the Col de Dame family legendary among collectors.
Growing Notes
- Mid-to-late season ripener; requires a long, warm growing season for full flavour development.
- Harvest by feel rather than colour — ripe fruit hangs down and yields with gentle pressure.
- Moderate vigour; well-suited to container growing and manageable in smaller spaces.
- Keep watering consistent during fruit swelling to reduce the risk of splitting.
- Protect from hard frost; bring containers indoors or heavily mulch roots below −5 °C (23 °F).
My Notes
The striped skin makes this one of the most visually striking varieties in the collection — it genuinely turns heads. Flavour is outstanding, right up there with CDD Grise. If you are already growing one Col de Dame, Rimada is the natural next step.
